Welcome Fellow Dancers!
Jumba (John’s Zumba) is the fun high energy Dance-Fitness society within St John’s College created by Lizzie English back in 2018. Each week, Naomi Wimsett (Society President) and Lizzie run an hour-long session packed with a different mix of easy-to-follow dance routines. The girls love to bring their own flares to the routines they create and teach which are inspired by different dance styles such as: hip-hop, latin, bollywood, jive and cardio!
Whether you’re a Patrick Swayze/ Jennifer Grey or not, JUMBA sessions are open to all St John’s students and absolutely no experience is required! Come along to de-stress, meet new friends, keep your fitness up and explore new dance styles.
Feel free to contact Naomi or Lizzie for more information!
**Special event** In March 2020, Lizzie and Naomi lead a 2hrs long danceathon (dance marathon) in fancy dress packed with some of their favouite JUMBA routines plus exciting new routines they revealed. The event attracted students from across the Durham colleges to fundraise for local mental health charity RTProjects, raising an outstanding total of over £400!! Bring on Danceathon number 2!
Covid restrictions will alter things this year but Lizzie and Naomi are working hard to deliver sessions whilst keeping everyone safe!
