St John’s Volunteering and Community Outreach

If you are interested in volunteering during your time at John’s, you’re in the right place! All of our volunteering projects are joint with St Chad’s college, so you will meet lots of people, and get to choose from a wider range of projects. Commitments can be as flexible as you like.

In the past, we have run an art club in a local primary school, weekly age UK tea parties for the elderly, and helped refugees learning English, amongst other projects.

This year we will be undertaking virtual projects due to COVID. The St Chad’s project will be a widening participation project, contacting local schools to help students from disadvantaged backgrounds get into Durham through workshops and mentoring.

For an overview of the plans for this project, here’s a slideshow:

More projects will be confirmed once term starts- to stay in the loop and for more information, like the ‘St John’s/ St Chad’s Community outreach’ page on Facebook, and email jemima.k.millar@durham.ac.uk, the St John’s Community Outreach Officer, if you have any questions about anything to do with volunteering!
